Over 60 Traders to Benefit from Newly Constructed Market Shelter in Kamenza Ward

Chililabombwe – 28th July 2025

More than 60 market traders who were previously operating in an open space are set to benefit from a newly constructed market shelter in Kamenza East.

The project, funded through the 2024 Constituency Development Fund (CDF), also includes a modern ablution block.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Chililabombwe Member of Parliament Hon. Paul Chanda Kabuswe commended the contractor for the quality of work and encouraged other local contractors to emulate such standards.

Hon. Kabuswe emphasized government’s commitment to improving trading environments, stating that the use of CDF aims to ensure traders in Chililabombwe have access to sanitary and conducive working conditions.

He also urged the local authority to ensure proper planning around the new market shelter, warning against uncoordinated development that might overshadow the facility.

Additionally, he appealed to the Council to identify a suitable location for the construction of a hotel to enhance infrastructure development within the district.

Meanwhile, Chililabombwe District Commissioner Mr. Kelly Jibinga thanked Republican President Mr. Hakainde Hichilema for the ongoing developmental projects taking place across all 156 constituencies in the country.

Speaking on behalf of the Mayor, Chililabombwe Deputy Mayor Mr. Michael Namindo described the new market shelter as a testament to government’s efforts to improve the living and working conditions of marketeers in the district.

He noted with satisfaction that all 24 wards in Chililabombwe have benefited from CDF-driven infrastructure projects.

Chililabombwe Town Clerk Mrs. Shilla Songolo highlighted that another market facility is under construction in Nakatindi Ward using 2025 CDF funding.

She underscored the importance of creating conducive trading environments, noting that traders play a key role in growing the local economy as part of the informal employment sector.

Mrs. Songolo also congratulated the local contractor for delivering high-quality work.

CDF Chairperson Pastor Steven Kase praised the New Dawn Government for the successful project and called for the continuation of similar developments across the district.

Representing the traders, Ms. Mukupa Mwamba expressed gratitude to the government, stating that the market shelter is the first of its kind in Kamenza Ward and will greatly improve the traders’ operations.
